645_raccoon_skullOur animation for today is a raccoon skull loaned to us by Dr. John Nass of California University of Pennsylvania was scanned and edited by Mariana Zechini, our Digital Zooarchaeologist.  We are scanning animal bones such as these to create a digital type collection for researchers to study. A video produced for Instagram by Archaeology in the Community in the Virtual Curation Laboratory features the Virtual Curation Laboratory’s Mariana Zechini discussing the object, using a scaled-down printed version made with a MakerBot Replicator.  The InstaGram video can be found here: http://instagram.com/p/jacVFmqqd6/#
