by Bernard K. Means, Director of the Virtual Curation Laboratory (VCL)

Today’s animation is a dorsal scute from a modern sturgeon loaned to the VCL by  Jamestown Rediscovery. This scute will be used in public outreach and educational programs to highlight the differences in size between the much larger 17th century sturgeons and their descendants today. A 17th century scute is highlighted in this animation.
