Animation of the Day: Quartz Projectile Point

by Bernard K. Means, Director of the Virtual Curation Laboratory

Today’s animation is a quartz projectile point from Marine Corps Base Quantico.  The actual object was scanned in the Virtual Curation Laboratory as part of materials loaned from the Fort Lee Regional Archaeological Curation Facility (RACF).  RACF Curator Amy Wood facilitated the loan, which was integral to our first Department of Defense Legacy Program funded project: “Virtual Artifact Curation: Three-Dimensional Digital Data Collection for Artifact Analysis and Interpretation.” A printed version of this point and other scanned objects was made with a MakerBot Replicator and given to RACF to use as part of their public programs.
