Animation of the Day: Hornfels Biface Fragment from Fort Lee RACF

Today’s animation is a hornfels biface fragment scanned in the Virtual Curation Laboratory.  This point was on loan from the Fort Lee Regional Archaeological Curation Facility (RACF) to aid in the development of a digital type collection of chipped stone tools, and for replication to be used in public programs.

Today’s animation is a miniature representing a French 54th Line Regiment Grenadier Company soldier from the Napoleonic Wars. Virginia Commonwealth University undergraduate student Chelsea Miller brought this figurine to the Virtual Curation Laboratory from the Virginia War Memorial, where she is currently an intern.  The figurine was scanned as part of an effort to digitally highlight part of the Virginia War Memorial’s collection, which includes an extensive collection of historic-period miniatures.

Today’s animation is a miniature representing a French 54th Line Soldier from the Napoleonic Wars. Animation of the Day: Bacon’s Rebellion Bomb Fragment from Jamestown

Today’s animation is an iron alloy bomb fragment recovered archaeologically by Jamestown Rediscovery. This object was involved in the September 19, 1676 attack led by Nathaniel Bacon against the colonial capital and Governor William Berkely.
